'Many centuries ago, a man with obscene wealth, lived in the city of the Golden temple, in Punjab.
One day he asked his seven daughters, for whom he provides everything. Six but the youngest said you are who provides us father. The youngest responded with God. The rich man furious with prudence married the youngest to a leper and released her to worst of fates. She roamed around the lands with her husband on a stroller.
One day she reached the temple made of gold. Her husband by its pool, she went to do some chores. The leper under the shade of a tree watched a crow fly by. It dipped into the glaze of shiny water, held in there for some time. Astoundingly came out as a glistening swan, leaving the darkness behind.
This gave the leper an idea; he dragged himself and jumped into the water. Leaving his wedding ring finger out as proof, he came out completely altered, disease all gone. When his wife returned and could not find her husband, he stopped and explained everything to her, changing their lives forever.'
"My great grand mother told me this story when I was little. Even though I realize it's a myth, it sounded like verses of a holy book from her mouth. It's one of those that shake my faith once in a while" says Designer Sukiran Amritsari.
The Autumn Winter 14/15 collection
The new Amritsari collection, promises to be nothing if not breathtaking! With a marriage between Luxury and History, this collection pays homage to the evolution of Amritsari Founder and Designer. Each piece from the collection acts as a page from his diary of life. Showcasing his experiences, inspirations, loves and lusts. With embroideries derived from original 15th Century Persian zardozi hand works brought in by the Moghuls of India and much later developed Phulkari of Punjab, splashes of color and gold taken from the Golden temple itself and its surrounding. The marble and tile work serve as motifs for embroidery patterns, along with fish from the pool converted into tessellations for prints. Tessellations can be found in a lot of places, in forms of both hand and single needle machine works on silk. Leather block belts-work represents the stairs to the temple as well as the heaven. Each piece, lovingly constructed, telling a story and evoking a moment of inspiration.
A centralized theme throughout the collection is the logo motif of two crows- black and gold derived from the story and used as an accouterment to complement certain pieces. While the 'Cercle de la vie' or Circle of Life is extracted from marble work and used in various embroideries. Each element brings balance to the collection, giving it grounding and, resilience and decadence, almost like the woman wearing it.
Luxurious silks, velvets, supported by genuine nappas and quality wools help to bring a varied palette of textures and tones, webbing Heritage with luxury and modernity, and delivering a visual as well as wearable treat.

The Adventures Of Sausage
Her epic journey from Indian street dog to classic Brit pooch is the inspiration behind the brass dog motif on every Betty and Betts product - a great reminder to us to change lives every day through making beautiful bags.
On her way to Blighty, Sausage travelled the backwaters of Kerala, experienced Indian tea plantations and national parks before arriving at a horse farm by a little red house in the Finnish countryside.
At last Sausage was free. Free to chase rabbits in the sunshine, to explore the shady forests, to eat delicious blueberries, sit in a canoe, swim in the sea, make new friends and know love. And yet, the amazing adventure of Sausage was still to carry on....
It's that kind of freedom that Betty and Betts dream of. The journey of Sausage is our motivation to keep on working with fair trade suppliers and alleviate the poverty of others. WHO ARE THE BETTIES?
Two girls met at an egg race on a hill in south India in 2006. They quickly realised that they were both bonkers about sustainability, beautiful products and people. During their four years in India working in the charity sector, they heard the same message over and over again: "Give me a secure job and I will do the rest. I just want to put my kids through school and provide a means for myself and my family!"
After many conversations over sweet hot tea and blistering spicy curries, The Betties decided to respond to this message by developing open and honest trade between these fabulous people and the rest of the world.
Tanya Clarke, one of the founding members, is the sole proprietor on Betty & Betts.

Garzón Luxury Knitwear Launch London Fashion Week: February 2013 Autumn/Winter 13
Luxury Knitwear label Garzón will debut it's collection representing Uruguay as part of the British Council and British Fashion Council's International Fashion Showcase 2013 . The first and only fashion label from Uruguay, based both in Montevideo and London, Garzón was created by renowned photographic agent, Tiggy Maconochie.
From 14-18th February 2013, the Dome Room of the former Central Saint Martins building will become a re-creation of the exquisite, historically intact Plaza de Garzón, in the tiny semi-ghost town in Uruguay, South America, where the label is eponymous. In addition to showcasing the AW13 collection, there will be a screening of the short mood film "La Sombra". Combining the themes of shadow, horses, and tango set to the music of Osvaldo Pugliese, the piece is shot in and around Garzón, transporting the viewer to the passionate land where the label was born.
Epitomising an exotic and romantic past to create an elegance for today, all aspects of the collection are designed, sourced and handmade in Uruguay. Combining day and evening wear, Garzón changes the usual concept of knitwear from casual to something more stylish with drama and flair. Using the softest Merino wool available, the knitters are small co-operative groups most of whom are members of the World Fair Trade Organisation. The wool is either natural or hand-dyed, in a palette inspired by the Uruguayan countryside - the dusty pink unpaved caminos and old brick red Estancias. The Belle Epoque and Art Deco were important and dominant periods in the design and style of Uruguay and has heavily influenced the aesthetic of the brand, while the wildlife lend their names to styles such as the Mulita or the Coronilla.
Supporting cultural heritage, acknowledging history, art and craft in a contemporary context and sharing this on a wider platform, promoting and continuing fast disappearing traditions, all pieces are handmade using the finest luxury yarns available from Uruguay to create "Slow fashion for a fast world".
